China-US trade volume grows 10.9% in Jan-Apr

cross border logistics China-US trade volume grew 10.9 percent in the first four months of 2022 in dollar terms from a year earlier, with trade volume hitting $245.73 billion, Chinese Customs said on Monday.

According to Chinese Customs data released on Monday, China’s exports to US grew 14.9 percent from January to April to $184.91 billion from a year earlier, slowing from a 16.7 percent gain in the first three months.

China’s imports from the US reached $60.81 billion in the first four months of 2022. The growth rate has slowed to 0.3 percent from a year earlier, compared with a  0.8 percent gain in the January to March period.

Growth between China and US trade however has slowed to a crawl in April compared with same period last year and against March data.

China’s foreign trade with US hit $59.78 billion in April, up 6.7 percent from a year earlier, slowing from 11.7 percent growth in March, according to the Global Times’ calculations based on Customs data.

On monthly basis, import and export volume between the two countries in April has dropped 4.3 percent from the $62.53 billion in March.

Trade between China and the US soared by 28.7 percent and stood at $755.6 billion in 2021, contributing 12 percent to China's record $6 trillion foreign trade for the year.
